About Utal

UTAL Building Products Ltd (formerly UTC Aluminum Ltd) was registered as NHI Ltd in 1939 with UTC Nigeria Plc as the major shareholder.

In 1986, UTC Nig Plc became the sole owner and the name was subsequently changed to UTC Metal Industry, which remained so until 1988 when it became UTC Aluminum for the sole purpose of identification with the nature of business.

In July 2004, the board of UTC Nig Plc approved the divestment of the group from Aluminum business through a Management-Bye-Out (MBO), which again resulted into the change of name to UTAL BUILDING PRODUCTS LTD and subsequently relocated from Creek Road, Apapa to Jagal Road, Off Ikosi Road, Oregun, Ikeja in December 2005.

In order to realize its goal of a complete package delivery in the construction industry, UTAL Group was created comprising of the following companies:-

(a) UTAL Building Product Ltd - which is engaged in design, fabrication and installation of architectural aluminum products and building elements.

(b) UTAL Technoprojects Ltd - which is into building construction, renovations and estate developments.

(c) UTAL Hardware Ltd - which supplies quality accessories, tools, spare parts, automatics amongst others mostly imported from European and Asian countries with some of the companies having over 25 years of manufacturing experience.

Top Management

PROFILE OF KEY MANAGEMENT STAFF

Friday Babatunde Obende is co-founder and pioneer Managing Director/Chief Executive of UTAL Building Products Ltd. He holds a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from the then University of Benin. He has over 18 years experience in the construction industry and started his career with the Ajaokuta steel company in 1987. He joined the Aluminum division of UTC Nigeria PLC as Product Manager in 1988 where he was involved in the sales and development of the company’s products and services and rose to the position of General Manager of the division in 2001. He later became the General Manager – UTC Engineering in 2002 saddled with the responsibility of overseeing engineering divisions of the company, UTC Nigeria Plc (UTC Water and Power Engineering, UTC Aluminum and UTC Facilities Management divisions). He has attended various management courses, including the AMP programme at the Lagos Business School, Nigeria.

Edward Olufemi Poluyi who became an Executive Director in 2004, has also been with the company since inception. He has a Bachelors degree in Mech. Eng. He has over eighteen years engineering experience and commenced his career with Ajaokuta Iron and Steel Industry in 1980. His previous positions in the company include Operations Manager and General Manager. Engr. Poluyi is a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and is registered with COREN. He has attended various management courses.

Emmanuel E. Ubani is the Assistant General Manager (Finance & Admin). He holds a HND equivalent certificate in Secretarial/Office and a Diploma in Law (1997) from the Lagos State University. He is also a member of the Association of Accounting Technicians, Nigeria.

He joined the company in 1994 as Accounts/Admin Supervisor from Arewa Metal Containers Ltd, then a subsidiary of UTC Nigeria Plc. He has over 21 years experience in office administration, human resources and finance and has attended various in-house and externally organized management courses on IT, Management and Finance He has been the President of the UTC Staff Co-operative Society since inception about 6 years ago.


Joseph E. Owolabi is the Assistant General Manager (Sales). He holds a HND degree in Architecture (1988) from The Polytechnic, Ibadan. He started his career with UTC Aluminium (then a division of UTC Nigeria Plc, 1990) as Senior Sales Representative. He also has a brief stint with ALTEC (formerly First Aluminum Products Plc) as Tech Sales Executive between 1994 and 1996 before returning to UTC Aluminum as Technical Sales Manger. He has over 15 years experience and has attended various Management Programs.

Aminu Adeiza Suleiman, Chief Operating Officer of UTAL Technoprojects Ltd was the immediate past Assistant General Manager (Marketing) in charge of marketing and marketing relating issues. He holds a HND degree in Architecture (1989) from Kaduna Polytechnic. He has over 13 years experience and commenced his career in the construction industry with UTC ALUMINIUM in 1992. Prior to that, he had lectured at the Kaduna Polytechnic between 1991 and 1992. His previous position in the company includes Senior Technical Sales Manager in charge of the Northern Region.

He has attended several management programs both in-house and that of Lagos Business School.

Ibrahim O. Abiola, currently a Senior Accountant, was until his appointment, an accountant of the former UTC Nigeria Plc Aluminum Division. He is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelors degree in Applied Accounting (First class) from Oxford Brookes University, United Kingdom. He joined UTAL Building Products Ltd (then UTC ALUMINIUM) in 2003, having worked as an Accountant with The Nigerian Army Housing Scheme. He has over five years accounting experience both in the private and public sector. He has received some awards of merit both at National level and local level amongst which are; Best Management Accounting Student, ICAN (November 2001) and Best Mathematics Student (1995).
